I might start off my reply by saying that I think they are the greatest printing plates in the world. What impresses me in particular is the accuracy we find in these plates immediately after casting. They are so good there doesn't seem to be any limit to the number of plates a man can finish in a day. In addition to this, the molding and casting are exceedingly simple propositions. We have not been able to determine how many impressions we can get from these plates, but to satisfy ourselves as to their hardness as compared with electrotypes, we made an aluminotype of a page and an electrotype of the same page, and sent them to the University of Illinois, at Urbana, with instructions to put them on the testing machine and advise us at what pressure they crushed.
